In this article written by Go Banking Rates, I discuss some of the benefits of starting a fresh herb garden! Many gardening experts and myself contribute tips for which herbs are the easiest to care for and propagate into other plants.
Growing your own herbs can be a very rewarding experience, will save you money in the long run, and will ensure you always have a supply of fresh herbs available! Using fresh herbs is a great way to add additional smells, flavors, and micronutrients, to your cooking adding without additional sodium.
Keep reading for my top three arguments for why you should garden at home:
Save money $$$
If you grow your own herbs, you won't need to purchase any from the store! Once you get the hang of gardening you can keep your herbs growing all season long and never run out. At the end of the season I'll dry out all my remaining herbs in the oven at the lowest temperature and then store them in the pantry. This way I have home-grow herbs year round, even in off seasons.
More flavor
Your home-made food will start tasting so much better!!! Adding fresh herbs is a great way to impart more flavor and aromas to your meals.
Food tastes better = easier to eat at home = saving even more money
Now that your food is tasting better, you'll look forward to home-cooked meals. Therefore, you'll save even more money, since there will be less of a drive to eat out as often!
Micronutrient diversity
Herbs are green leafy vegetables! It's easy to forget that herbs actually count as vegetables and are a great way to increase the plant based diversity of your dishes.
